The University of Arizona Astronomy Club would like to welcome you to our website. Our goal is to inspire and assist anybody interested in space and the sciences. We have many opportunities to work on astronomy projects with other students and faculty that care about astronomy education. Feel free to browse our site and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Hi everyone

I'm Collin Chadwick and I'm currently a junior at the university. I spent many years at Pima Community College before I first started taking classes at the U of A in August 2009. I'm double-majoring in Anthropology and Classics, and hope to one day become a researcher of some kind in the field of archaeology. My favorite things to study as far as astronomy goes include galaxies of all kinds, the formation and geologic makeup of planets, the outer planets in our solar system, and the Moon.

I also enjoy studying a wide variety of things other than astronomy, like poetry, world history, martial arts, ancient and modern philosophy, tartan (kilt pattern) history, flags of the world, world languages, the Arthurian legends, Star Wars, Scrabble, and epic literature like Beowulf, Gilgamesh, and the Odyssey. The history of Japan, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the British Isles, especially Celtic and Roman Britain, interests me the most with regards to world history. I love listening to Celtic and Baroque music, and have attended the Tucson Celtic Festival and Highland Games held in town every year since 2007. Some of my favorite Celtic artists include Celtic Woman, Natalie MacMaster, the Chieftains, the Tannahill Weavers, and Solas. Other musicians that I follow in terms of CD releases are Hayley Westenra and the Silver Thread Trio (a local Tucson band).

Some of my favorite books are "Beowulf" by Seamus Heaney, "1066 - the Year of the Conquest" by David Howarth, "The Chrysanthemum and the Sword" by Ruth Benedict, "Celtic Gold" by Peter Marshall, "Tess of the D’Urbevilles" by Thomas Hardy, "Miyamoto Mushashi - His Life and Writings" by Kenji Tokitsu, and "World Tartans" by Iain Zaczek.

World languages are a new hobby of mine. I took a year of Spanish in high school, a year of Japanese at Pima College, a semester of Latin at Pima College, and now I’m beginning my first semester of ancient Greek at the U of A. Eventually, I want to learn Irish Gaelic, Old English, and Egyptian hieroglyphs just for fun.

My main passion is studying world cultures. I never get bored with anthropology; I like finding a common humanity in all the cultures I come across, and that's a big part of what keeps the social science fresh for me. I'm really into everything that has to do with Ireland, especially Irish archaeology, myths, legends, history, and traditional music. My dream job would be as a researcher studying the ancient archaeological sites of Ireland.
